Croydon Tech City is in its third year and is now London's fastest growing digital, creative and technical startup cluster (38% growth between 2011-2014; ONS Business Register).

As part of London Technology Week, Croydon Tech City is hosting an afternoon to celebrate the efforts of the community and chart the past, current and future aspirations of the Croydon Tech City movement.

This will be an instructive afternoon to explain what Croydon as a Tech City will look like in the next few years, and what your role to play in it will be. The event will:

INTroduce you to key contacts within croydon tech city

explain the CTC CULTURAL & EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY TO RETAIN & CREATE TECH TALENT

CONNECT YOU TO EARLY STAGE AND GROWTH STAGE COMPANIES

The afternoon will comprise of a series of presentations from the Croydon Tech City management team and a selection of local tech startups, workspace owners, arts/culture, community and council figures. There will also be an afterparty where delegates can network and meet with local tech companies, corporates and investors.

    Frank is a former investment banker and CEO of QuidCycle, a Croydon-based peer-to-peer lending firm that was described by The Financial Times as "the antidote to Wonga".

    Colm Lacey is currently Director of Development for Croydon Council and Managing Director of Brick by Brick, the development company established by the council to undertake residential-led development across the borough.

     Frances is a passionate educator and leader with a particular interest in preparing Croydon's students for the tech economy on their doorstep.

    Steve Shaw (CTO, DotMailer)

    Steve is the CTO of DotMailer PLC, a publicly-listed marketing technology company with a market cap of over $100m. DotMailer started in Croydon in 1999, and now employs over 200 people around the world.

  • David Slater (Director of International Business Development, London & Partners)
    David Slater (Director of International Business Development, London & Partners)

    David's role at London and Partners - the Mayor's official promotional organisation for the capital - is to build London’s international reputation and attract investment and visitor spend which creates additional jobs and growth for the city.

  • Mark Sarfo (Co-founder of Cellar Door Events)
    Mark Sarfo (Co-founder of Cellar Door Events)

    Mark is part of the Cellar Door collective and is responsible for many of Croydon's outdoor entertainment events, including popular rooftop cinema 'The Lost Format Society'.

  • Juliette Morgan (Global Technology Lead, Cushman & Wakefield)
    Juliette Morgan (Global Technology Lead, Cushman & Wakefield)

    Juliette works as Partner in the Global Technology Practice at Cushman & Wakefield and is based in London. Until 2015 she was also Head of Property for the Government’s Tech City UK initiative.

    Mike Herd is the executive director of the Sussex Innovation Centre, a technology business incubator based in Brighton on the University of Sussex campus, and opened a second campus in No1 Croydon last year.

    Alasdair Blackwell (Former co-founder, Decoded)

    Alasdair is passionate about the benefits of teaching children to write computer code - and is currently collaborating with Croydon Tech City and Croydon Citizens to deliver a tech apprenticeship programme.

  • Graham Cadle (Assistant CEO, Croydon Council)
    Graham Cadle (Assistant CEO, Croydon Council)

    Graham works alongside Croydon Council's CEO to deliver digital transformation and improve customer experience. Most recently, Graham has worked with GO ON to run digital literacy workshops for Croydon locals.

  • James Naylor (Editor-in-Chief, The Croydon Citizen)
    James Naylor (Editor-in-Chief, The Croydon Citizen)

    James Naylor is Editor-in-Chief of The Croydon Citizen, the borough's first print and online citizen-powered news magazine. He also works for ad-tech company Affectv and runs Croydon walking tours for investors and tourists alike.

  • Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison (Owner, RISE Gallery)
    Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison (Owner, RISE Gallery)

    Kevin is the owner of RISE Gallery, a cool art space that has seen Croydon become home to Damien Hirst and Banksy exhibitions. Kevin is also working on plans to create Europe's largest underground gallery in Croydon, for 2019.

    Dan Elwick (Regional Coordinator for London & East of England, Code Club)

    Dan is the London and East of England Regional Coordinator for Code Club, a network of free, volunteer-led, after-school coding clubs for children aged 9 to 11.

  • Gary Parnell (Head of Tech Startup Recruiting, SAP)
    Gary Parnell (Head of Tech Startup Recruiting, SAP)

    Gary leads on EMEA recruitment of startups for developer enablement through the SAP Startup Focus program and alsos drive platform adoption with Ecosystem & Channels for HANA Edge.

    Adam Spearing (VP Platform, EMEA at Salesforce)

    Responsible for all aspects of the Salesforce App Cloud across EMEA since 2012. Adam spends time helping Executives understand and get the most value from the Salesforce App Cloud and how to digitize their businesses and connect with their customers in new ways.
