THE CROYDON TECH CITY SUMMIT 2017

 

Croydon Tech City is in its fifth year and is now the UK's fastest growing digital, creative and technical startup cluster (38% growth between 2011-2014; ONS Business Register).

As part of London Technology Week, Croydon Tech City is hosting an afternoon to celebrate the efforts of the community and chart the past, current and future aspirations of the Croydon Tech City movement.

This will be an instructive afternoon to explain what Croydon as a Tech City will look like in the next few years, and what your role to play in it will be. The event will:

Give you an understanding of Croydon's growing tech cluster

INTroduce you to key contacts within croydon tech city

explain the CTC CULTURAL & EDUCATIONAL STRATEGY TO RETAIN & CREATE TECH TALENT

CONNECT YOU TO EARLY STAGE AND GROWTH STAGE COMPANIES

The afternoon will comprise of a series of presentations from the Croydon Tech City management team and a selection of local tech startups, workspace owners, arts/culture, community and council figures. There will also be a rooftop afterparty where delegates can network and meet with local tech companies, corporates and investors.

    Shifa Mustafa as Croydon Council's executive director of place and leads the council on safety, streets, development, regeneration, culture and planning.

     Frances is a passionate educator and leader with a particular interest in preparing Croydon's students for the tech economy on their doorstep.

    David's role at London and Partners - the Mayor's official promotional organisation for the capital - is to build London’s international reputation and attract investment and visitor spend which creates additional jobs and growth for the city.

    Mark is part of the Cellar Door collective and is responsible for many of Croydon's outdoor entertainment events, including popular rooftop cinema 'The Lost Format Society'.

    Bindi Karia is the former European VP, Silicon Valley Bank where she focused on building the firm’s early stage Commercial Banking business in Europe, plus driving relationships with Corporate VCs and Emerging VCs. She is currently on the EU European Innovation Council.

    Mike Herd is the executive director of the Sussex Innovation Centre, a technology business incubator based in Brighton on the University of Sussex campus, and opened a second campus in No1 Croydon last year.

    Chukwuma Ogbobie is the founder and CEO of Safe In Sound, a technology which lowers the volume in headphones worn by pedestrians when crossing busy roads.

    Anna Arthur is a local theatre director who runs Croydonites: an annual festival of new theatre and performance.

    Jonathan joined Coast to Capital as Chief Executive in January 2016. He has significant experience of policy development and the leadership of major projects having worked for more than a decade at the interface between government and industry.

    Kevin is the owner of RISE Gallery, a cool art space that has seen Croydon become home to Damien Hirst and Banksy exhibitions. Kevin is also working on plans to create Europe's largest underground gallery in Croydon, for 2019.

    Dan is the London and East of England Regional Coordinator for Code Club, a network of free, volunteer-led, after-school coding clubs for children aged 9 to 11.

    James Asfa is a British-Iranian Community Organiser for Lambeth and Croydon with Citizens UK, who is working with Croydon Tech City to pioneer the borough's first tech apprenticeship scheme.
